Le Bu

Originally from Yancheng, China, bass-baritone Le Bu began his vocal training at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, before transferring to Wichita State University. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where he received the Hugh Ross Commencement Award. He has participated in the Art Song Festival at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the iSING! International Young Artist Festival and was the 2018 winner of the Barbara Rondelli Kansas Statewide Classical Voice Competition. His recent operatic engagements include Dr. Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Aspen Opera Theater and Sprecher in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the Merola Opera Program.

In 2022, Le was named a Grand Finals winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition. He is a first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera. He will make his Met debut as a Flemish Deputy in the 22-23 season revival of Verdi’s Don Carlo and sing Second Armed Man in Julie Taymor’s beloved holiday production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
