Prof. Maria Venuti

Maria Venuti was enrolled in the famous Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY, where she completed her Bachelor's degree and Performer's Certificate in 1969/1970. Thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship, she was able to continue her vocal studies in Europe. In 1976, a master class with Christa Ludwig brought her to the Vienna State Opera, where in her first year on stage, she sang under Herbert von Karajan and Karl Böhm.

Besides opera, Maria Venuti has also performed in concert and and given Lieder recitals. Internationally in high  demand, she has worked with renowned musicians such as Charles Spencer, Helmut Deutsch and Leonard Hokanson and the conductors Celibidache, Solti, Sawallisch, Harnoncourt, Peter Schneider and Günther Wand. Numerous recordings bear testimony to her significance as a singer.

Knowledge of the voice has always been extremely important to Maria Venuti. A professor of singing at the Karlsruhe University of Music since 1994, she has extended the scope of her activities to hold master classes throughout Germany and abroad.

Maria Venuti founded the HILDEGARD ZADEK FOUNDATION in 1997 on the occasion of Hilde Zadek's 80th birthday. It was and remains important to her that Hilde Zadek's legacy should live on and bear fruit.
