Anita Monserrat

mezzo-soprano, HZF scholar in Vienna

Anita Monserrat, from Salisbury, England, burst onto the scene in 2024, winning both the Audience Prize and Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Prize at the annual SWR “Young Opera Stars” competition. On 10th September, she won 2nd Prize and the Patagonia Voice Award at the “Neue Stimmen“ Competition sponsored by Lis Mohn and the Bertelsmann Verlag.

The new HZF scholar at the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera, Anita made her unexpected debut as Gertrude in Romeo and Juliet (Ch. Gounod) on 14th September, when she jumped in for Stephanie Houtzeel. The OnlineMerkur praised her performance as the “perfect debut.” Upcoming appearances included Kate in Madame Butterfly, and Fortuna in The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland (G. Monteverdi) in November and December.
